The following resources are intended for the use of Scouts Australia Members and some require membership numbers to access. Further resources are available for our members only and require a log on to this website.
Terrain is the Scouts Australia record keeping and workflow control App. Topo is a viewer that can provide a number of reports. Documentation on Terrain can be found at https://pr.scouts.com.au/terrain/
OAS training in Camping , Bushcraft and Bushwalking to level 5 is usually provided by the group scout leader, but other areas require training by area experts. These are known as core skills and Level 5 in each is required for the Australian Scout Award.
OAS (outdoor adventure skills) courses in other areas (Aquatics, Vertical, Boating , Cycling, Paddling) can be booked with branch. Click the following button and then click the search hyperlink on the page that opens, and then the search button open the page that opens after that. Find the course you want and push the select button at the end of the row, then fill in the following forms.
SIA (Special interest areas) are personal projects with personal objectives. These can be done individually at home, or could be done by a group or patrol, but each person should submit their objectives individually on terrain and have them approved by troop council. They are intended to require at least 8 hours to complete. It may be possible to design a nights program as a special interest area and then lead it to generate a LEAD for you milestone progression. Six SIA projects are required for the Australian Scout Award.
Three milestone badges must be achieved in scouts for the Australian Scout Award. Each requires the completion of a certain number of Participates, Assists, and Leads across a number of Challenge areas. The Challenge areas are Community, Outdoors, Personal Growth and Creative. Each night or activity is allocated to one of these on the program. In your first year a Lead may just involve running a game, but the later milestones require you to run a night or event.
Very little is required to participate in scouts- just a shirt. If you find yourself contemplating a purchase of equipment then please take the time to read my gear notes. Weight is a lot more important for younger scouts than adults or older ones – it really will make a big difference on pack carry.
